Blue Bag Placement

Do not park in front of the blue bags and carts until they have been collected
- Remember, angle parking in a cul-de-sac is not permitted. Items will not be collected.
Have your blue/clear bag out by 7 a.m. on your collection day
Place your recyclables on the road at the curb/snowbank
Keep your blue bag one metre (an arm's length) from your carts

Once collected, bagged recyclables are processed at a materials recovery facility and sorted according to type: metal, plastics and fibres (cardboard). The items are then recycled.

A New Recycling Program is Coming to Lloydminster on October 1

Beginning October 1, 2026, residential recycling services in Lloydminster will transition to Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program. Under EPR, producers are financially responsible for collecting and recycling the packaging and paper products they supply.

Circular Materials will assume responsibility for residential recycling services, while garbage and organics collection will remain the responsibility of the City of Lloydminster.

Residents can expect:

The same collection schedule
Multiple blue bags will continue to be accepted
A broader range of recyclable materials
A temporary $3.82 monthly rebate on affected utility accounts from October 1 to December 31, 2026

Until October 1, residents should continue following the City’s current recycling guidelines.

Will my recycling collection day change?

No. Residential recycling collection schedules will remain the same.

Can I still put out multiple blue bags?

Yes. Residents can continue to put out multiple blue bags for recycling collection.

Will I be able to recycle more materials?

Yes. A broader range of materials will be accepted beginning October 1. Until then, residents should continue following the City’s current recycling guidelines.

What happens to garbage and organics collection?

There is no change. Garbage and organics collection will remain the responsibility of the City of Lloydminster and will continue as usual.

Will my curbside collection fee change?

Yes. Residents will no longer be responsible for the municipal cost of residential recycling under EPR. A $3.82 monthly rebate will be applied to affected utility accounts from October 1 through December 31, 2026, with the corresponding reduction reflected in the City’s curbside collection fee beginning January 1, 2027.
